Working with Oxford University Press, UK, Dr Mitchell has just completed his fourth cardiology book. The first edition of "Emergencies in Cardiology" sold over 10,000 copies in its first year of publication and as a result, a second edition is currently being commissioned.
Following the success of the Emergencies book, Dr Mitchell and Oxford Cardiologist Paul Leeson developed a series of practical guides that are expected to become the standard texts for cardiology practical procedures across the British Isles and Europe.
International experts from around the world contributed chapters that were then edited into a simple, easily accessible style with clear pictures, hints and tips. The books have been designed to set the standards for training and competency in modern cardiology.
"Echocardiography" was launched at the headquarters of Oxford University Press in July 2007. The book was co-edited with Professor Harald Becher from Oxford and encompasses all necessary aspects of transthoracic, transoesophageal, stress and contrast echocardiography.

"Pacemakers and ICDs" was published in December 2007 and officially launched at the World Paing Congress in Rome. Dr Jonathan Timperley from Northampton and Dr Tim Betts from Oxford co-edited the text. This book will de-mystify some of the technical aspects of pacemaker implantation, timing and programming. The book includes sections on cardiac resynchronisation therapy as well as detailed descriptions of implantable cardioverter defibrillator management.

"Cardiac catheterisation and coronary intervention" is the third practical guide and includes all necessary aspects of modern invasive angiography. The book was written by Dr Mitchell and Dr Nick West from Papworth Hospital in Cambridge and has a section devoted to perfoming coronary angioplasty. It had its book launch in Chicago, USA at the Scientific Sessions of the American College of Cardiology in March 2008.
